You can just have the video set around the outside of your house, especially at your doors, or you can also have it placed at strategic points inside your house. For example, if you have some very valuable jewelry that you keep at your house, you may want to have a camera that is aimed towards your safe so that you can see if someone who is not allowed to get into your safe gets in. You might also be able to lower your insurance rates if you were to have cameras set on your safe like that. Another benefit of having video is that you can check out who is at your door without getting up or even being home, because the security system can alert you if someone is knocking or has rung the bell. 

Motion Detectors

Another thing that you can do is to add motion detectors to your alarm system. You can set these up near your doors and windows and have them set so that they trigger your video feature every time that the motion detectors go off. You can also have them attached to lights so that if they are triggered, the lights will turn on, which can scare off anyone who triggers your motion detectors. It will also turn on the lights as you drive up into your driveway so that you have light to see to get to your door. 

Remote Activated Door Locks

There are door locks that you have hooked into your security system that you can lock and unlock using an app on your smartphone. They will also alert you whenever the door is locked and unlocked. If you are worried that you forgot to lock your door, you can go to the app, check to see if the door is locked, and then lock it, if need be.
